Fall 2003 Meeting Minutes

The Fall 2003 Meeting was held at The United Church of Huntington, Lorain County, near Wellington, Ohio, Rev. Steve Carmany, pastor.

Thoughtful devotions concerning how the Christian is to relate to the enemies of Christ ("Love Them; Live With Them; or Liquidate Them"), based upon Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8, were provided by Rev. Dr. John Hood, Moderator, Ohio Association, CCCC.

A very informative as well as humorous presentation concerning "Natural Church Development" was presented by Rev. Paul Hoffman, Pastor, St James Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) of Cleveland, Ohio. A full description of the program can be found at www.churchsmart.com. Many in attendance had questions for Rev. Hoffman indicating that they considered the presentation to be effective and potentially very useful for individual congregations.

Rev. Dr. Franklin Shannon, Director, Cooperative International Studies, presented a detailed written report concerning the progress and future plans for the Voronezh Theological Seminary in Voronezh, Russia. Included in the report was information regarding the establishment of 11 new churches, the graduation of 9 students from the seminary, and an outline of the plan and need for funding for future work of the seminary, including funding for the completion of studies for current students. For additional information, contact Franklin through the CCCC national office at www.ccccusa.org.

WINTER BANQUET: Friday, 03/19/04 @ Malone College, Canton, Ohio beginning at 6 pm; Presenter: Rev. Dr. Stephen Gammon, Conference Minister, Conservative Congregational Christian Conference. Elected to this office in July 2203, and an active U.S. Navy Reserve Chaplain as well, Steve's presence with us is highly anticipated. Those of us who have had opportunity to become acquainted with him, and who heard him present at the national 2003 CCCC Annual Meeting, urge all who are able to be attending the Winter Banquet.

SPRING 2004 OHIO ASSOCIATION MEETING: Saturday, 05/01/04 at Pittsfield Community Church, Pittsfield, Lorain County, Ohio. Presenter: Rev. Dr. Carl Bogue, Pastor, Faith Presbyterian Church (PCA), Akron, Ohio; Topic: "Jonathan Edwards' Doctrine of the Covenant." Dr. Bogue, who holds an earned Th.D. from the Free University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, under the mentorship of the late Dr. G. C. Berkouwer, internationally noted theologian and scholar, is a specialist and published author in Edwardsean studies, having been granted access to Edwards' handwritten manuscripts at Yale University for his doctoral studies and dissertation. Carl is a very active pastor whose pastoral duties also include oversight of the Westminster Academy, a grade K-12 Christian school and ministry of the Faith Presbyterian Church. He is an engaging presenter who is unequivocal concerning the absolute Lordship of our Sovereign, Jesus Christ. We are especially pleased that Carl is available to present during this 300th year-long anniversary observance of the birth of Jonathan Edwards, considered by many the most outstanding theologian yet produced in America, and a long-time colonial Congregational pastor and missionary. Please plan to be in attendance.
